Star Wars Return of the Jedi Receives Rating Change Due To Violent Content
The British Board of Film Classification, the UK equivalent of the MPA, recently changed the ratings of a number of films, including Enter the Dragon, Raging Bull, Mean Streets, Friday the 13th, and Gangs of New York, from 18 to 15 (the former is no longer used). Other movies that had their ratings raised from U to PG included Santa Claus: The Movie, Casper, The Addams Family, and School of Rock. However, the movie that is generating the most controversy online is Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, as we first reported on SFFGazette.com. This is due to the movie's "moderate violence, mild threat," which has caused the BBFC to express concerns about whether the content of the film is actually appropriate for.
A BBFC spokesman shared a statement with Mail Online which reads, "We embarked on our latest guidelines review this year where we spoke to a diverse range of parents, families, teenagers and educators across the length and breadth of the country."
