CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 Director Responds to Negative Attacks & Review Scores
In addition to providing Marvel Studios with much-needed financial support, Deadpool and Wolverine were well received by both reviewers and fans. Regretfully, Captain America: Brave New World failed to maintain the franchise's equilibrium.
Even though the film had a better-than-expected first weekend (it has already surpassed $200 million globally), the reviews were mixed, and the fourth Captain America film is currently sitting at 49% on Rotten Tomatoes, where it is unlikely to move.
There are those who support Brave New World, but it's probably safe to say that the film hasn't connected with Marvel fans the way those who worked on its production would have hoped.
In an interview with Esquire, director Julius Onah was questioned about the film's reception by critics.
"All I'll say is that we were working very hard and are very passionate about the movie we made. We told the story in a way that I feel very excited about and very satisfied with. Every single one of these movies [receives criticism]—and maybe because it was so out-there in terms of some of the conversation, people perceiving certain things, certainly—but I don't think that is the truth of the reality of it.… The really important thing for me is the experience the audience gets to have: enjoying the story."
