Blade Director Quits Marvel Studios Reboot

Blade Director Quits Marvel Studios Reboot

Blade is looking again for new cameramen. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Yann Demange has left the long-running project.

Amicable separation occurred some time ago. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige stunned fans by bringing out Mahershala Ali to discuss the project's latest creative challenge.

Blade was set to begin production in fall 2022 but director Bassam Tariq left over creative issues. Ali reportedly handpicked Demange to direct Lovecraft Country, but the writers strike in May 2023 delayed it.

Ali is still scheduled to star, and the studio is not rushing production. Marvel veteran Eric Pearson is writing the current draft, which will be released on Nov. 7, 2025. Marvel is recalibrating and intends to make two films a year after pressures to increase cinema and TV programming in the early 2020s.
