Zack Snyder Reveals Superman Plan To Please Fans
After his critically acclaimed return as Superman in Black Adam, Henry Cavil left the DC Extended Universe. David Corenswet replaced him as Superman after DC Studios opted not to keep him.
Without being fired from the DCEU before Justice League wrapped filming, Zack Snyder would have made at least two sequels.
GQ interviewed the director about his filmmaking career. Snyder then explained his decision to end Zack Snyder's Justice League by showing how Darkseid controls Superman in the future.
Even in the DCEU's "Knightmare" era, Batman led a band of heroes and villains to defeat Superman.
"He was going to have to succumb to the Anti-life, be destroyed, turn the clock back, and then get his chance for this battle against Darkseid," Snyder says of his plans for Superman's redemption arc. "If you will...that would have finished his trilogy of becoming this guardian, and sort of, return him to his humanity."
