Batman v Superman was a Dumb Idea over Man of Steel 2 Says Film Writer

When Man of Steel was released in theaters a decade ago, it marked the beginning of Warner Brothers' attempt to match the level of commercial success achieved by the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the DC Comics characters. Zack Snyder was the writer and director of the film, which co-written by David Goyer brought in a total of $668 million worldwide. Soon after the movie's conclusion, it was revealed that the sequel would be titled Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con. Now, Goyer has shared his opinion that a standalone sequel to Man of Steel should have been produced after the film rather than the DC ensemble, which featured cameos from other DC Comics heroes in addition to Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Goyer believes that this would have been more appropriate.

On the episode of Happy, Sad, Confused that Goyer appeared on with Josh Horowitz, the two of them reflected on the significant moments in Goyer's professional life. In the course of their conversation about "Man of Steel," Horowitz posed the question of whether or not "Batman v Superman" should have been followed by a standalone sequel instead. "Yeah, I think that's the case," Goyer conceded. When it comes to ideas about a standalone Superman movie starring Henry Cavill, Goyer said, "There was and but it's would've, should've, and could've." However, when asked to share what those ideas were, Goyer demurred from revealing too much, claiming that it is "bad form" to share such specifics about a movie that wasn't made. Goyer was responding to a question that asked him to share what those ideas were.
