Man of Steel Writer says WB Pressured them to be like the MCU
Warner Bros. wanted the DCEU to have a similar structure to the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind the scenes. In a recent interview, DC Comics movie writer David S. Goyer revealed how the company's executives have been maneuvering to get closer to the Justice League. Josh Horowitz was able to obtain all of the information during an episode of the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, and the scribe makes it abundantly clear that competing with Marvel Studios was a sort of internal priority. Because Man of Steel brought in a lot of money for the company, the executives in charge wanted to move things along as quickly as possible as soon as Superman started making money. This caused some of the creatives working behind the scenes to become unsettled. However, they did everything in their power to adhere to the regulations.
"I am aware of the pressure that was being applied to us by Warner Bros., which was "We need our MCU!" We can't live without our MCU! And I said something along the lines of "let's not run before we walk," "Goyer was able to reveal. "Another factor that contributed to the difficulty of the situation at the time was the constant turnover of top executives at both Warner Bros. and DC. Every 18 months, a new person would take over the position. We had just begun to experience whiplash. Every new person said, "We're going to go bigger!" and I couldn't help but laugh."
"I seem to recall that at one point, the individual who was in charge of Warner Bros. at the time had this release that pitched the next 20 movies that would be released over the next ten years. However, none of them had been written down at that point!" During the course of the conversation, Goyer added "It was incredible to see how much construction was taking place in the air... This is not the proper method for constructing a home."
