Jake Gyllenhaal Offered Lead in FANTASTIC FOUR

It is said that after Matt Smith turned down the role of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, the character was offered to Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays Spider-Man in the film Spider-Man: Far from Home. While we are taking this rumor with a grain of salt, it is possible that this is true.

Although this wouldn't be the first time an actor has played more than one role in a Marvel Cinematic Universe production, it is a very different circumstance than Gemma Chan's appearance in both Captain Marvel and Eternals. The actress who plays Minn-Erva and the actress who plays Sersi are actually the same person, but only the most astute viewer would have been able to tell the difference based on appearance alone. On the other hand, Gyllenhaal left such a lasting impression as Mysterio that it is debatable whether or not the six years that passed between the two movies were sufficient to justify him donning the costume of the Fantastic Four's leader.
