Marvel's Victoria Alonso Fired Over Working at Rival Studio
A new report may provide some insight into the circumstances surrounding Victoria Alonso's recent dismissal from her position as an executive at Marvel Studios.
According to a report that was published on Friday by The Hollywood Reporter, Alonso was fired from her position at the company because she repeatedly breached the contract that she had signed to produce the recent Amazon drama Argentina, 1985, which was nominated for an Oscar.
Alonso allegedly violated a 2018 agreement that saw her violate Disney's standards of business conduct, which state that employees are not allowed to work for competing studios. These insiders were cited in the reporting as saying that Alonso was responsible for the breach.
According to reports, Alonso was given multiple warnings about the breach of contract, but in the end, things came to a head when she was fired in the week following the Oscars.
This lends credence to reports that indicate that Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman, to whom Marvel Studios executives report, was the one who made the decision to fire Alonso rather than Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
According to reports, Feige did not step in to stop the firing of Alonso, and she was taken by surprise by the decision.
