Miramax Secures Halloween Shared universe Rights and More

Miramax Secures Halloween Shared universe Rights and More

Miramax has won the bidding war for the "Halloween" horror franchise's television rights, which means Michael Myers could soon be slicing and dicing his way across the small screen or various streaming platforms. According to an insider with knowledge, the indie studio beat out other contenders, including A24, which was also in the running for the rights.

Trancas International Films, which owns the franchise's television rights, held the auction. Miramax's aggressive pursuit of the option to make a television spin-off makes sense, given that the company owns the film rights alongside Trancas. Furthermore, the horror franchise has been extremely profitable for Miramax, which also co-produces the "Scream" films. The agreement comes just a week after Miramax CEO Bill Block was fired after overseeing a disappointing run of films such as "Confess, Fletch" and "He's All That." The majority stakeholder, beIN Media Group, and Paramount Global jointly own the company.

A24, which is much more well-known than Miramax, purchased the television rights to the "Friday the 13th" series and has also had success with horror, releasing films such as "Hereditary," "Midsommar," and the comedic "Bodies Bodies Bodies." The auction was first reported on by Bloody Disgusting.
