X-MEN 97 Marvel Studios strikes back at Beau DeMayo's Claims
We shared earlier today comments from Beau DeMayo, who used to be the head writer for X-Men '97. In them, he strongly hinted that homophobia might have been the reason he was fired from the highly acclaimed Disney+ show. DeMayo said that he had been stripped of his season 2 credits just days after posting some Gay Pride Month fan art of himself in a skimpy but mostly harmless Cyclops outfit. This was an allusion to ongoing problems he was having behind the scenes.
Now, Marvel Studios, a company that doesn't usually talk about what goes on behind the scenes, has fired back at DeMayo, saying that his initial firing in March 2024 was due to "egregious" misconduct.
"Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation," "Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately and he has no further affiliation with Marvel."
"following his exit, an agreement was reached between the two parties over the issue of tweeting about the show, something that DeMayo had continued to occasionally do. In light of the breeches, his credit for season two was removed." "While no details of the cause of the termination or the internal reviews have surfaced, sources say it involved sexual misconduct."
