Ant-Man Star Michael Douglas says He's Done With Marvel
In 2015, Marvel Studios launched the Ant-Man franchise with Scott Lang as its main shrinking superhero. The comics partially supported Hank Pym's retirement after the Cold War, but that was new.
Paul Rudd's Ant-Man has many fans, but some were upset that a founding Avenger was relegated to a supporting role in a franchise he should have led.
Marvel Studios waited years for Edgar Wright to direct Ant-Man, but "creative differences" arose when cameras rolled. As Black Ant, Hank would have been evil in that movie.
Instead, he mentored Scott and reunited with Janet Van Dyne after she was released from the Quantum Realm.
Hank didn't contribute much to Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, and Michael Douglas has said he wants to leave the character.
"This actually was my request for the third one," "I said I’d like to have a serious [death], with all these great special effects. There’s got to be some fantastic way where I can shrink to an ant size and explode, whatever it is. I want to use all those effects." "But, that was on the last one," he added. "Now, I don’t think I’m going to show up."
