Tim Burton Slams Nicolas Cage Superman Cameo in The Flash
Tim Burton recently gave an interview to the British Film Institute, in which he discussed the effects that the cancellation of "Superman Lives" by Warner Bros., in which Nicolas Cage was attached to play the title character, had on him, as well as how he felt when he saw Cage play Superman and Michael Keaton play Batman in DC Studios' "The Flash." Cage had been attached to play the role of Superman in "Superman Lives."
In reference to the abandoned Superman project, Tim Burton responded, "No, I do not have any regrets." "Let me just say this: if you put in that much effort into a project over such a long period of time and it doesn't pan out, it will have an impact on you for the rest of your life. Because you develop an interest in things, each of which represents an uncharted path, and the thing in question had not yet arrived. However, it is one of those experiences that stays with you, even if only for a little while.
Burton was going to direct Cage in the role of the Man of Steel in "Superman Lives" in the late 1990s. This came about as a result of the success that Warner Bros. had with their Batman movie franchise. After nearly two years were spent on the film's pre-production, the decision was made to shelve the project. Cage made an unannounced appearance as Superman in Warner Bros.'s "The Flash," in which the Man of Steel fights a gigantic spider as the multiverse begins to collapse. In addition, Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Batman in the superhero movie that will be released in 2023. Keaton previously portrayed the character in 1989's "Batman" and in 1992's "Batman Returns," both of which were directed by Tim Burton.
