Blue Beetle Officially Flops on Opening Weekend

"Blue Beetle" has taken the top spot at the domestic box office, unseating "Barbie." Despite having a lower-than-anticipated opening weekend gross of $25.4 million, the most recent DC Comics superhero adventure managed to take the top spot.

In 63 different countries, "Blue Beetle," which stars Xolo Mariduena as an extraterrestrial symbiote, brought in an additional $18 million at the box office. It's one of the slowest starts in the long history of the DC Cinematic Universe, with only $43 million in total worldwide revenue.

After spending the previous four weekends in first place, "Barbie" landed on her feet in second place with $21.5 million from 4,003 theaters, which is an incredible result at this point in its run in theaters. Greta Gerwig's fantasy-comedy has generated $567 million after five weeks of release, and it is soon going to overtake Universal's animated "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," which has generated $574 million, as the most successful release in the United States this year.
