DC's Blue Beetle Thursday Night Box Office Numbers are In

Even though children are returning to school, the summer box office is still going strong, and there is a possibility that we could get close to $4 billion thanks to the final act power of Barbie and Oppenheimer. That DC title saw $3.3M last night in previews that began at 2PM from 3,400 locations, while Universal is looking to give guys something to laugh at after Oppenheimer with the R-rated bawdy doggie comedy, Strays, which grossed $1.1M from showtimes that began at 5PM at 2,700 theaters. Warner Bros. is hoping the first Latino superhero movie, Blue Beetle, will stoke its core moviegoers.

It is anticipated that Blue Beetle will win the weekend with between $28 and 32 million dollars, and the hope is that Latino and Hispanic moviegoers will fuel it with walk-up business. It is anticipated that the movie directed by Angel Manuel Soto will take the top spot away from Warner Bros.' Barbie in her fifth weekend, with the Mattel doll expected to maintain her beauty with $22 million to 24 million.
