Disney Announces Price hike for Disney+ & HULU
The cost of the Disney package is going to go up significantly (yet again) in the near future. Today, Disney held its quarterly earnings call, during which CEO Bob Iger announced significant changes to the company's pricing model for its three major streaming platforms: Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+. It also means significant price increases across the board for all three streaming services, even though it comes with a new duo bundle that will offer both Hulu and Disney+ at a deep discount.
The ad-free plan for Disney+ will increase in price from $10.99 to $13.99 per month beginning on October 12, while the ad-free plan for Hulu will increase by the same amount, moving from $14.99 to $17.99 per month. Both iOS and Android users will continue to have access to the same ad-supported plan options. This is the model that Disney hopes will attract a greater number of customers. Hulu's premium plan has increased by $5 per month over the course of the past calendar year, while Disney+'s has increased by $6 to further differentiate itself from the newly-implemented ad-supported tier. This is taking into account the price increase that occurred in December of the previous year, which made the cost of individual Disney services more expensive. Subscribers to ESPN+ will also see an increase in their monthly bill, albeit one that is not nearly as significant as the price increase from $9.99 to $10.99 for the subscription.
