Zack Snyder Reveals the Reason Batman v Superman Was R-Rated originally

Director Zack Snyder discussed why the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) initially handed the DCEU sequel an R-rating during the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice panel at SnyderCon. Dawn of Justice VFX supervisor John Des Jardin discussed why the sequel was still obtaining an R-rating despite the fact that they had changed some scenes in the film, eventually disclosing that the cause was the MPAA's criticism about Batman being "too nasty to Superman" in the film:

“Remember when you kept coming back to me, saying… ' The MPAA wants us to take… remember, we couldn’t do the blood splat on the wall for the crate? … But we kept taking all those things out, and it was still getting an R-rating. And then you got that note from them: ‘Well, we just think that Batman’s too mean to Superman.’ And we were like, ’Can you really comment on that?’”
