Superman Legacy adds Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor
According to multiple sources, James Gunn has found his Lex Luthor in British actor Nicholas Hoult. [SOURCE DEADLINE] After Gunn cast newcomer David Corenswet in the titular character and Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, this position was always coveted by Hollywood.
After the SAG-AFTRA strike, the studio decided to go through the casting process to find an actor to portray Luther. Warners has already signed Hoult for Clint Eastwood's Juror No. 2. Hoult also appeared in the 2015 Warner Bros. movie Mad Max Fury Road, which grossed over $380 million worldwide. Last week, Deadline claimed that Venezuelan actress Mara Gabriela de Fara had been cast as the villain The Engineer.
Hoult follows in the footsteps of Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, and Jesse Eisenberg in portraying Lex Luthor in the Warner Bros. Superman franchise. Before the actors' strike, Gunn had chosen Corenswet and Brosnahan as his major leads following months of audition videos and in-person screen tests, but he was still working on the film.
