Avengers The Kang Dynasty Director QUITS Project
The Kang Dynasty is currently without a director. According to Deadline, Destin Daniel Cretton has left the fifth episode of the Marvel Studios franchise. According to the story, Cretton's departure was "amicable," and the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is still tied to the untitled Shang-Chi sequel and the Disney+ TV series Wonder Man. The fifth Avengers film will be released on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will conclude the Multiverse Saga and Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on May 7, 2027.
Cretton joined the Avengers: Endgame sequel as part of a larger contract with Disney and Marvel Studios last July. Under the same agreement, Cretton began work on the Yahya Abdul-Mateen II-led Wonder Man series for Disney+, which he co-created with Andrew Guest (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community). According to Deadline, Cretton helmed the first two episodes and will continue to serve as executive producer on the television series. Wonder Man will resume production after the Thanksgiving holiday and will be released under the recently launched Marvel Spotlight banner, which provides Marvel Studios with a "platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen" — stories set in the MCU canon but essentially disconnected from the interconnectedness of the larger universe.
