Kick-Ass film Reboot CONFIRMED by Director

Kick-Ass film Reboot CONFIRMED by Director

Matthew Vaughn is known for directing a variety of films, including Kick-Ass and Kingsman, both of which he intends to return to. Kingsman 3 had previously been announced, and franchise star Taron Egerton expected the film to begin production this year. Due to the ongoing SAG strike, the movie is unlikely to begin filming in 2023, but Vaughn confirmed the threequel will be made next year alongside another Kick-Ass film during a panel at New York Comic Con.

"We will be rebooting Kick-Ass next year, but it will be a total... "It's like... it's as brave as the first one, but totally different and more reflective of the times we're living in," Vaughn explained to ComicBook.com. "We are currently working on that," Vaughn said of Kingsman 3 during his NYCC panel. "It's an odd time to be in the film business. We don't make movies, but that's a different story. But it's a difficult time, and... next year we're rebooting Kick-Ass and making Kingsman 3."

"Kick-Ass changed people's perceptions of what a superhero film is at the time," he added. So we're doing it again, but this time without any of the characters from the previous Kick-Ass. We'd like to bring them back after the reboot, but this reboot is going off on a tangent that I really can't discuss."

When speaking with ComicBook.com in 2021, Vaughn revealed more about his Kick-Ass reboot.

"Oh, you've got a big reboot, a big Kick-Ass reboot in two years." A major relaunch... It's so insane that I can't even talk about it. But we've got that covered. "All the rights revert back in two years, and then we're going to reboot it, and people will be like, 'He is insane,'" Vaughn revealed.

When asked why he's doing a reboot rather than Kick-Ass 3, Vaughn said, "I think the clue is in the title." Kick-Ass... I believe it established a new genre. Everyone was like, 'Oh, you can't make R-rated superheroes,' whenever we made it. Nobody wants to see an R-rated superhero movie. You're not going to be able to do it. That is not possible.' So, [LAUGH] when we- I had to say 'dare' and it was so insane that I went, 'Yeah, great. It'll spark just as much debate, and everyone will talk about it, and just as many people will love it as hate it.' But I'm not saying it doesn't have or won't have the characters in it. I'm just saying it's not what anyone could imagine it to be. And I'm going to need a very brave actor or actress to play the new Kick-Ass because it's going to scare the crap out of them."
