WB & DC Comics Being Sold off to Universal Studios

There have been rumors that Warner Bros. Pictures could be sold, with Universal Pictures being the most likely buyer. Warner Bros. Pictures is currently owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, which also owns Discovery and the Max streaming service. DC Studios, which is owned by Warner Bros., is the subject of a new documentary that delves into the backstage drama surrounding Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. According to the Variety article, those on the Warner Bros. lot believe the studio will be sold within the next two years, with Universal being the most likely candidate.

"The bottom line is that they need to get DC to work whether [David] Zaslav owns it, whether Brian Roberts owns it, or whether somebody else owns it," said Rich Greenfield, a Wall Street analyst and venture capitalist at LightShed. The article also discusses how there is uncertainty about who is really in charge of DC Studios. Kevin Feige, for example, is the creative force behind Marvel Studios and its creative output, whether it's a feature film in theaters or a series on Disney+. Meanwhile, James Gunn and Peter Safran are the co-CEOs of DC Studios, but Max is also involved in creative. According to a Max source, the collaboration between Gunn, Safran, and Max executives Sarah Aubrey and Casey Bloy has been seamless thus far.
