DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE Holds On as Box Office King
Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel Studios' first R-rated film, has retained its No. 1 perch at the domestic box office for its sixth weekend.
The Shawn Levy-directed film was momentarily dethroned by Alien: Romulus earlier this month and sank to second place, but it recovered with little opposition.
This weekend's movies, including the Dennis Quaid-led documentary Reagan and Sony and Blumhouse's AI horror film Afraid, aren't likely to affect Deadpool and Wolverine over Labor Day.
The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-led Multiverse adventure, which recently passed Joker to become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, is expected to earn $12 million to $13 million over the extended break and pass $600 million domestic by Monday (it needs Inside Out 2's $646 million to become 2024's highest-grossing film) DP&W's global total is $1.21 billion.
