Martin Scorsese Says REAL Filmmakers like Nolan would NEVER touch Comic Book Films

Martin Scorsese, the director, recently talked about comic books and franchise culture in an expansive new profile with GQ. This is a subject that he has previously discussed at length in the past.

When asked about those blockbusters, Martin Scorsese responded that the prevalence of those films could be detrimental to audiences who aren't familiar with other subgenres of film.

According to him, the most concerning aspect of the situation is the damage that it is causing to our culture. "Because there are going to be generations now that believe movies are only those — because they believe that's what movies are." Scorsese gave his assent to the interviewer's speculation that the audience members may already hold that belief.

"Already, they have that notion," he stated. "Which indicates that we will need to engage in a more powerful counterattack. And it has to come from the level of the people on the ground. It must originate from the directors of the film themselves. You'll also have Chris Nolan and the Safdie brothers, if you understand what I mean. And strike them from every direction. Don't give up and make sure to hit them from all angles. Okay, show me what you've got. Get out there and finish the job. Try something new. Don't make a big deal out of it. But the fact remains that we have a responsibility to preserve cinema.

The director also discussed the difference between the definition of content in the age of streaming services and actual cinema. The next movie directed by Scorsese is titled "Killers of the Flower Moon," and it is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 20.

He stated, "I do think that the manufactured content is not really cinema," and went on to say, "It's almost like AI is making a film." However, this does not imply that there are not outstanding directors and artists working on the special effects producing stunning works of art. But what exactly does that imply? What do these movies offer, and what will you get out of it? Aside from the consumption of something and the subsequent removal of that something from your mind and body as a whole, you know what I mean? So, what are you getting out of it?"
