Tom Holland Spider-Man Return in Question after Latest Statement
Disney and Marvel look to be committed to producing a fourth installment of Tom Holland's Spider-Man film franchise, but the actor has declared that he will not do so unless it "does justice to the character." Holland, who has been hesitant to publicly commit to another Peter Parker outing, stated in a recent interview that he wants to "protect [Spider-Man's] legacy" and that while they have been discussing what's next, he isn't fully on board until there is something he feels is a worthy follow-up to the billion-dollar hit Spider-Man: No Way Home. Holland has played Spider-Man in more feature films than any other actor since Captain America: Civil War in 2016, including three Spider-Man standalone films and a two-part Avengers epic. That doesn't mean he's looking forward to adding another number to the list.
"All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character," Holland told Collider in an interview. "Whether or not we can do justice to the character is another question." I'm quite possessive of Spider-Man. I consider myself really fortunate to have had the opportunity to work on a franchise that evolved and became more successful with each film, which I believe is quite unusual, and I want to honor his legacy. So I'm not going to make another one just for the sake of making another one. It must be worthwhile for the character's time."
